POSITION OVERVIEW

The Geffen Playhouse seeks a visionary and detail-oriented Director of Production to lead and oversee all aspects of theatrical production, from budgeting and planning to execution and management. This role requires a collaborative leader with extensive experience in theatre production, ensuring the seamless development and execution of 6-8 productions alongside special events and projects in development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage a team of production supervisors, technical staff, and stage managers, ensuring smooth operation and high morale.
Collaborate with the General Manager to negotiate contracts with vendors, artists, and production personnel.
Develop, implement, and monitor production budgets in partnership with the Producer.
Oversee all production processes, including scheduling, meetings, vendor communication, and plan execution.
Facilitate cross-departmental communication to ensure cohesive season planning.
Lead production meetings, manage space and building concerns, and address technical challenges.
Recruit and interview potential vendors, stage managers, and technicians.
Recommend designers and stage managers for each production alongside the Producer.
Maintain working knowledge of union agreements (AEA, LORT, USA, SDC) and act as a liaison.
Continuously monitor production progress and ensure all departments meet deadlines.
Collaborate with the Technical Directors on all safety and equipment compliance.
Maintain regular communication with senior management on finances and potential budget adjustments.
Track payroll and show budgets with the Artistic & Production Administrator.
Partner with Development, Marketing and Operations to identify technical needs for special events.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Be able to keep a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
Evening and weekend hours are required during technical rehearsals and previews.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience (Master's Degree preferred).
3-5 years of production management experience in theatre.
Deep understanding of all theatrical production elements, especially technical design and technology.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to interpret and modify technical drawings, plots, and plans in Vectorworks/AutoCAD required.
Strong problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities.
Thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining composure.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary Range/Hourly Range: $100,000 - $110,000 per year
