Dramaturg Rachel Wiegardt-Egel

Rachel is the Manager of New Play Development at the Geffen Playhouse, where she supports the artistic staff in season planning and fostering new work. This year, she spearheaded The Writers’ Room program, in which six Los Angeles-based playwrights will develop new plays at the Geffen, culminating in a reading series next summer. She has previously worked in a dramaturgy/literary management capacity at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, McCarter Theatre Center, Marin Theatre Company and the Ojai Playwrights Conference. Favorite past dramaturgy projects include the world premiere of Alena Smith’s Icebergs (Geffen Playhouse), Nick Payne’s Constellations (Geffen Playhouse), a workshop of Jason Grasl’s Lying with Badgers (Native Voices at the Autry Festival of New Plays) and Mike Bartlett’s An Intervention (Williamstown Theatre Festival).
